Miracle, A Holiday Concert of the Kids

101.9FM, The Mix’s “Miracle, A Holiday Concert for the Kids” took place at the Rosemont Theatre and featured Kelly Clarkson, Andy Grammer and LIGHTS and a portion of the proceeds, once again, benefited La Rabida! We are so thankful to The Mix for their continued support and for all those who came out to the show and brought hats, scarves and gloves to donate to our patients.
Double Your Impact

Did you know many companies offer a matching gifts program to encourage philanthropy among their employees? And that some companies will even match to spouses and retirees? As you make your year-end contributions, check with your employer to see if your gift can have an even greater impact!
Chicago Sky Bring Holiday Cheer

Chicago Sky mascot, Sky Guy, visited La Rabida to hand out toys and pose for photos with our patients and their families this holiday season. Thanks to the Chicago Sky for their continued support!

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Santa’s elves have been working diligently for the last few weeks leading up to his visit on Christmas day.

For two weeks every year, La Rabida Children’s Hospital gives away toys to all outpatient children (including ACC and our three offsite facilities) who have appointments during this time. This year, toys were distributed from Dec. 11-22 by La Rabida staff. This was a fun time for staff to mingle, give away toys and meet some of the families that we all serve. The toys are sorted, bagged and categorized by our Child Life team. Child Life also prepared for the gift giving on the inpatient unit on Christmas day.

On Christmas morning, Santa (Michael Mesirow) made a surprise visit and delivered gifts to La Rabida’s inpatient children and their families. Santa was dropped off at La Rabida and accompanied by his helpers of Chicago Fire Department Engine Company 63. Thank you to the Mesirow family for keeping this 47-year tradition going strong. All our patients who have been discharged recently have gone home with wagon loads of gifts, and also gifts for their brothers and sisters.

Toys were given out to over 1,000 delighted children! A special thanks to everyone – donors, staff and volunteers – who helped make this the most wonderful time of the year. For some of our families, the toys from La Rabida are the only toys that they will receive this season.

There were also a number of other wonderful festivities including numerous toy and hat/glove drives, tree trimming, holiday-inspired meals by Food Services, and more.

11th Annual Dressy Event

Through a generous donation from Frankie's on the Park and Thread Drop, two upscale children’s wear boutiques, La Rabida Children’s Hospital patients took to the catwalk on December 10 for the 11th annual patient Dressy Event.

The girls and boys had their pick from rows of fancy party dresses, trendy jeans and sweaters, cutting edge outfits, and accessories to match, all generously donated by Lisa Rolfe, owner of Frankie's on the Park and Ligia Mendez, owner of Thread Drop.

The fashion show and donation is an example of the diverse support for La Rabida Children’s Hospital and its patients. Almost all of La Rabida’s patients are from underserved Chicago communities and receive treatment regardless of their family’s ability to pay.

La Rabida CEO Featured in Podcast

Brenda Wolf, President and CEO of La Rabida, recently participated in HIMSS' STEPS to Value, a podcast that explores the intersection of people, processes & technology in healthcare as the industry moves towards a value-focused model. In this episode, Brenda talks about how the hospital has become a ‘medical hub’ to ensure that children and their families receive all of the physical, emotional and educational support they need, not just during a doctor’s visit but throughout their young lives.

Thank You Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2!

Chicago Fire Department Firefighters Union - Local 2 shook their boots to collect donations for La Rabida Children’s Hospital earlier this month. The Chicago Fire Department has a long tradition of serving the citizens of the city and has been giving back to important causes like La Rabida for decades. We are so grateful for their support!
